The Increase In Popularity Of Silver Maple Leaf Coins
The world economy is struggling and more and more people are turning to tangible assets rather than stocks and bonds when it comes to investing. If you wish to do the same, one asset you should consider purchasing is Silver Maple Leaf Coins. These silver bullion coins are issued every year by the Canadian government which started this practice in 1988. The Royal Canadian Mint is responsible for the minting of the coins so you know they are a legitimate form of currency and one that more and more are collecting.
Silver Maple Leaf Coins often have more value than what is shown on their face. When you purchase a one ounce silver maple leaf coin, the face value is five Canadian dollars. This is the highest among all silver bullion coins worldwide. Back in February of 2008, the market value was actually twenty Canadian dollars which shows how much the value can go up. Most bullion issues have a standard of 99.90%. Not the Canadian version. The purity of the silver maple leaf coin is 99.99% silver, making is one of the highest of all silver bullion issues.
One can distinguish a silver maple leaf coin for other issues quite easily. On the coin you will always find a maple leaf. The coin will generally consist of one troy ounce of silver. Other Silver Maple Leaf Coins have been issued over the years also. Back in 1989, a proof release was issued. Other designs have include a coloured maple leap, holographic enhancements, privy marks and the like. Back in 2009, the Royal Canadian Mint released an issue to commemorate the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Other notable Silver Maple Leaf Coins issues have also been released. In 1998, to mark the tenth anniversary of the coin, the mint released a single-issue ten ounce version. The following year, the mint opted to issue all Silver Maple Leaf Coins with a privy mark. This was to commemorate the RCM Maple Leaf Program's twentieth anniversary. The mint choose to release another special version the following year. The 2000 version came with a privy mark with fireworks and another commemorated the millennium. Both were double dated with the years 1999 and 2000. The one thing that all Silver Maple Leaf Coins have in common is that they carry the phrase "Fine silver 1 ox Augent Pur". This can be found along the bottom of the obverse on each coin. These coins often fetch prices well above their bullion value. This is especially true of years which limited mintages. If you want to collect coins, this is a great addition to any collection. On the other hand, if you are looking for a backup form of currency, you can't go wrong. |
